Engineering Beyond the Floodplain

Holland Park Apartments is a 35-unit multifamily development thoughtfully designed to fit within the South Creek Greenway corridor while overcoming one of the site’s greatest challenges – a location entirely within the floodplain.

OWN provided civil engineering services including site layout, grading, stormwater management, and surveying support. The project required an innovative approach to create a functional, code-compliant site while minimizing impacts to the surrounding environment. Rather than fighting the site’s natural constraints, the design embraced them by elevating all three apartment buildings on structural stilts, making Holland Park Apartments one of the first developments of its kind in Springfield.

Developing an effective stormwater solution for a site located completely within the floodplain required creative engineering and close coordination throughout the design process. The result is a unique residential community that works in harmony with its surroundings while maintaining direct access to the South Creek Greenway Trail.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful engineering and innovative design can transform even the most challenging sites into vibrant places for people to live.

During his tenure at OWN, Jared worked his way up from Design Engineer to Office Leader to Land Development Division Leader and was awarded the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE) Ozark Chapter Young Engineer of the Year Award for his dedication to bringing his clients’ visions to life on numerous projects throughout Missouri.
