Over twenty years ago, a call came in from an auto parts retailer. At the time, O’Reilly Auto Parts had an in-house team with one civil engineer and two draftsmen.

Looking to expand, they tasked OWN, Inc. with providing Civil Engineering, Land Surveying, Drilling (limited by range of drill rigs), and Construction Inspections in a service area around the company’s headquarters in Springfield, Missouri.

Since those early days, the company has exploded with growth. And the relationship between the retailer and OWN has blossomed into a decades-long partnership.

OWN handles the Civil Engineering responsibilities across approximately 30 states. Each project includes site plan/land development, environmental assessment, utility layout, stormwater design, permitting, and construction staking.

The team also helps the client by evaluating properties for viability prior to purchase, and appears before local boards on any business-related matters.

To accommodate the workload, OWN has assembled a team of ten or more members built for responsiveness and speed. When a call comes in, it’s routed to the team member best equipped to handle the request.

Updates may come later, but action begins immediately. The team also acts as a resident historian for the company by maintaining an archive of many of the client’s documentation and historical records.

While the team does assist with renovations, a majority of the firm’s focus is on new store construction. OWN typically works on around 200+ projects each year.

The flexibility inherent in this arrangement has allowed the client to scale its footprint as large as they want. O’Reilly currently operates stores in 50 states and internationally. OWN handles things in over 30 of them.

All told, the two have collaborated on over 4,000 sites. And with the firm, it’s a recipe for success for years to come.
