Surveying a site like Carroll Electric isn’t just about gathering data, it’s about finding the safest, smartest way to capture a complete picture of a complex environment. With busy roadways, active rail lines, and existing structures all in play, our team took a strategic, technology-driven approach from the start. Rather than relying on traditional methods alone, the team leveraged a multi-platform strategy through integrating Mobile LiDAR, UAV technology, and handheld SLAM to capture highly detailed, accurate data while improving efficiency and reducing risk in the field.

Along Highway 62, Mobile LiDAR allowed the team to safely collect high-resolution data without placing crews in active traffic, eliminating roadside hazards while maintaining precision. For the broader site, UAV-based LiDAR and aerial imagery provided complete topographic coverage, including the Arkansas Missouri Railroad corridor. By capturing this area remotely, the team avoided complex permitting requirements and removed the need for dangerous trackside work, all while collecting detailed data on adjacent properties without disruption.

To document existing structures, handheld SLAM technology was used to quickly capture building footprints and interiors. This approach significantly accelerated fieldwork while delivering a richer, more comprehensive dataset than traditional methods.
