Truman Lake State Park Wastewater Improvements

Protecting a beloved park from Mother Nature.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there’s nothing like spending warm summer days at Harry S. Truman State Park. Located in Warsaw, Missouri, Truman State Park boasts more than 1,400 acres for boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and camping.

In 2019, the lake was severely impacted by flooding, where the flood water overtopped lagoon berms, restricting user access to the facility and requiring the park staff to work extra hours to repair damage. Because the park was also planning an expansion of the marina, the Missouri Office of Administration called OWN, Inc. to help rectify this wastewater problem before any further damage could be done.

Leveraging our extensive experience in wastewater systems and management, we approached the project with a goal of modifying the existing wastewater treatment system to improve Park system operations and provide better treatment of the wastewater.

Additionally, we ensured the design would comply with the Division of State Parks, Division of Facilities Management, Design, and Construction, and with current and potential future permit requirements so the client can rest easy knowing the system will help mitigate future flooding problems if Mother Nature comes calling again.

This solution is a win/win as it will allow the park to protect guests and reduce the burden of relying on Park staff to have to deal with overflow waters again. And park goers can simply get back to enjoying the beauty of the lake!
