Creating Safer Community Connections

Safe, connected pedestrian infrastructure helps strengthen communities, and the Trail of Tears Sidewalk Improvements project does just that. After the City of Battlefield secured Surface Transportation Block Grant–Urban (STBG-U) funding, OWN partnered with the City to deliver the project from design through construction.

OWN provided preliminary engineering, right-of-way plans, final plans, specifications and estimates, construction administration, and construction inspection. The project added approximately 2,200 linear feet of new sidewalk connecting Elm Street and Somerset Street through Trail of Tears Park, while also widening select sections of existing sidewalk to improve accessibility and pedestrian safety.

By creating a continuous pedestrian connection through one of Battlefield’s key public spaces, the project enhances walkability, improves access to local amenities, and supports the City’s long-term vision for a more connected community.
