Rivian Manufacturing Facility

Rivian Manunfacturing Facility

Fueling growth through higher capacity.

Things move fast in the EV market.

And when Rivian Motors needed to expand its flagship manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois, OWN, Inc. got the call.

This is the factory where Rivian builds its innovative SUVs, pickups, and Amazon delivery vans. The proposed expansion would add 630,000 square feet of manufacturing space to the existing 3.6-million-square-foot complex.

OWN was joined at the table with Gala & Associates, an architecture and engineering firm based in Beverly Hills, Michigan, that specializes in Automotive Assembly Plants.

We provided civil site engineering, grading, earthwork, stormwater design, utilities coordination, and assisted the general contractors throughout the permit process. Work also included the extension of 3,000 linear feet of storm sewer due to undersized existing infrastructure.

An aggressive schedule called for ample staffing. OWN dedicated 2-3 team members to the project daily. This included coordination of weekly design and construction meetings with Rivian staff and general contractors River City Construction from nearby Peoria, and Walbridge from Detroit.

Work began in August 2021. By December the following year, Rivian was moving in equipment and wrapping up site paving. With the expansion nearly complete, the promising EV company is better prepared to meet growing demand.
